Charting the Course – Strategy of Danish Shipping 2026-2030

Danish Shipping is the voice of Denmark's largest export industry and the core of the maritime cluster, Blue Denmark.

In a changing world, it is crucial to be at the forefront of future trends in order to ensure competitive framework conditions and opportunities for the shipping industry and Danish Shipping's members.

The focal point of this strategy is to strengthen Denmark as the preferred home and community for shipping companies. Denmark is where Danish shipping companies’ interests are best represented, from political support to world-class skills and strong collective bargaining agreements.

The strategy has three strategic Focus Areas:

Competitive home for Danish shipping

• The Danish-flagged merchant fleet is to grow as much as, or more than, the world fleet.

World-class maritime competences

• The number of students enrolled in maritime education is to increase each year up to 2030.

• Deliver at least 400 internships annually.

• More Danish seafarers in 2030 compared to 2025.

Safely and ambitiously towards zero

We work towards:

• Global regulatory schemes are in place that drive the green transition of shipping beyond the EU’s regional measures.

• Scaling up production of alternative fuels and technological solutions, enabling our members to meet new requirements while at the same time enhancing the efficiency and competitiveness of the merchant fleet.

• The adoption of robust and competitive climate regulation with effective implementation and practical handling of challenges.

The world is changing. We adapt, seize opportunities and contribute to forward-looking solutions. Danish shipping contributes to the sustainable transition of shipping, our strategic role in Danish, European, and global security, and we provide a vital link in the international supply chain.

We work knowledge-based and base decisions and recommendations on professionalism, facts and analysis. We are trustworthy and base our work on honesty, factual arguments and sustainable solutions.

We are result-oriented and deliver ambitious and timely results and value for members, the profession and Denmark.

We are forward-looking and proactive, and work to create opportunities and solutions to national and international challenges for the benefit of the shipping industry. Blue Denmark and Danish society.

We are collaborative and involve and utilise competences inside and outside the organisation and the shipping companies, as well as create alliances with important actors nationally and internationally.
