Legal and regulatory framework
International shipping policy

Legal Framework

The focus is primarily on maritime law, company law, insurance law, competition law, and accounting and capital market issues. These rules help determine the framework for shipping operations in and outside of Denmark. The framework includes aspects such as ship registration, liability and insurance for the transportation of passengers and goods, including environmental damage, as well as rules on arrest, maritime liens, and wreck removal.

We represent member interests in national legislation, EU proposals, and the development of international conventions. We are represented in international shipping organizations such as ECSA, ICS, BIMCO, and the maritime law organization CMI. We maintain an ongoing dialogue with Danish authorities and participate in IMO negotiations regarding new regulations in maritime law. In addition to advocating for member interests in rule-making, we also provide general advice to members on these topics.
