Piracy

There are still problems with piracy in several parts of the world. Especially the Gulf of Guinea off the coast of West Africa is prone to pirate attacks, and in recent years, there have been attacks on Danish-operated and Danish-owned ships.

The threat from pirates, especially off the coasts of West and East Africa, means that Danish Shipping companies spend up to a billion Danish kroner each year on security measures.

However, a massive multi-faceted effort has significantly reduced the number of hijackings resulting from pirate attacks in West Africa. Nevertheless, the challenges are far from solved, particularly in West Africa, and they continue to bring significant human and economic costs for the shipping companies.

Danish Shipping is in ongoing dialogue with authorities regarding anti-piracy efforts and how to reduce the problems associated with piracy.
