Plastic does not belong in the ocean. And although only a small portion of plastic pollution in the ocean originates from ships, Danish Shipping has a clear stance and supports initiatives aimed at preventing pollution.
Plastic has absolutely no place in the ocean. It poses a threat to marine ecosystems and is responsible for the deaths of thousands of marine mammals and around a million seabirds annually.
Although only a small portion of plastic pollution in the ocean is estimated to originate from commercial ships, Danish Shipping's stance is clear, and we support multiple initiatives that have taken up the challenge of combating plastic in the ocean.
Danish Shipping believes that the EU Port Reception Facility Directive is a strong measure in ensuring that plastic waste is brought ashore.
