50 new trainees start Danish Shipping Education

Today, 50 trainees from 21 different maritime companies and 17 different nationalities started Danish Shipping’s trainee programme.

This morning, 50 trainees arrived at Danish Shipping’s offices in Amaliegade for the first module of their two-year shipping trainee programme.

Among the new students were Christopher Juhl Christensen, trainee at Ocean7 Projects, and Frøydis Åsheim, trainee at NORDEN.

“You quickly realise how important it is to have a strong network. Meeting new people is how you get ahead in shipping. I have also always been very interested in global politics. It is incredibly exciting that when something happens on the other side of the world, you can feel the impact in your day-to-day work in the industry, says Christopher Juhl Christensen. “I have a bachelor’s degree in Shipping Management, and I want to continue learning and expanding my knowledge of shipping. The shipping industry is incredibly diverse. Even between Norway and Denmark, there are major differences. It is really exciting to work in an industry where you are connected to what is happening all over the world,” says Frøydis Åsheim. Danish Shipping Education is a two-year private training programme offered by the Danish Shipping Academy (DSA) in collaboration with Danish shipping companies. The programme is designed for shipping trainees employed by shipping companies, bunker companies or other types of maritime businesses.

“With Danish Shipping Education, we provide students with the latest knowledge as well as a strong professional foundation and network that they can take with them as they pursue international careers in the maritime industry,” says Anne Panknin Kristensen, Deputy Director of the Competence Centre at Danish Shipping.

Danish Shipping Education

Danish Shipping Education develops the shipping professionals of the future in collaboration with shipping companies, combining theory and practice to prepare trainees for an exciting future in global shipping.

Danish Shipping Education is aimed at trainees from shipping companies, bunker companies and other shipping-related businesses, and combines theoretical and practical learning. Trainees enrolled at Danish Shipping Education are employed in trainee positions at their respective companies both before and during the programme.

This ensures a strong practical supplement to the theoretical elements of the programme and provides well-rounded learning and a solid understanding of the industry.

Over the course of two years, the trainees complete academic courses in the following six subject areas:

  • Maritime Law: Legal Aspects of Shipping
  • Maritime Economics: The Global Impact on Maritime and Business Economics
  • Ship Design: Construction, Operations and Future Vessels
  • Energy & Green Transition: Adapting to Climate and Environmental Changes
  • Geopolitics & Maritime Transport: Grasping Geopolitical Influences and Changes
  • Connecting Shipping Relations: Navigating Multicultural Shipping Settings
