Denmark Maintains Its Position Among the World's Best-Performing Flag States
The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has just published its annual Flag State Performance Table. As usual, Denmark ranks among the very top and is one of only fourteen countries to achieve a positive score across all criteria in the assessment.
Denmark is one of just fourteen flag states—out of a total of 123—that have received “green” indicators for all the criteria used in the assessment, which is published annually by ICS. The table reflects the extent to which flag states comply with international maritime agreements, regulations, and standards.
Danish shipping companies deliver shipping services of the highest quality.
“Denmark is one of the world’s leading maritime nations—and for good reason. Danish shipping companies deliver shipping services of the highest quality. This is once again documented here, where Denmark has achieved a perfect score in ICS’s Flag State Performance Table. This is exactly as it should be and demonstrates that we take our status as a quality flag very seriously,” said Anne H. Steffensen, CEO of Danish Shipping.
In addition to Denmark, the other thirteen countries with a perfect score in the table are France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong (China), Japan, Liberia, Malta, the Marshall Islands, Norway, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the Bahamas, and the Cayman Islands.

The criteria used to compile the ICS Flag State Performance Table include ratification of relevant international conventions, White- and Black-listing in port state control, low average fleet age, IMO member state audits, and much more.
