Here you can find information about the support funds administered by Danish Shipping, including whether the funds are currently accepting applications. The purpose of each fund, the application requirements and the conditions for receiving support are also set out below. Applications that fall outside the funds’ stated purposes will not be considered.
Pension Fund for Ship’s Officers
The purpose of the fund is to provide pension-like benefits, including supplementary payments towards existing old-age, disability, widow’s and children’s pensions, and to grant special transitional benefits in connection with retirement from shipping companies that have historically contributed to the fund.
The fund is NOT [TP1.1] accepting applications. Only shipping companies affiliated with the fund may nominate individuals for supplementary pension benefits.

Danish Shipping’s Support Fund
The purpose of the fund is to provide individual grants to the surviving dependants of Danish seafarers and to elderly or infirm seafarers. The fund may also support foundations, associations and independent institutions for seafarers in need, such as seafarers’ homes and similar organisations, as well as institutions working to promote the welfare of the maritime sector. Support may also be granted to individuals deemed deserving of assistance who have a connection to the maritime sector. In addition, the fund may support initiatives that benefit the maritime sector or have another maritime connection.
The fund accepts applications from individuals, institutions, associations, independent institutions and similar organisations. Only applications that meet the purposes described above will be considered for support. The fund’s board determines whether an application meets these criteria. The fund expects to distribute approximately DKK 300,000–400,000 annually, with payments being made in December.
Applications for individual grants [TP2.1] must be submitted using the application form available at the bottom of this page. The form includes guidance and information about the supporting documents that must be enclosed, including documentation of the applicant’s connection to the maritime sector. The completed application form and supporting documents must be emailed to fond@danishshipping.dk no later than 15 October to be considered for an individual grant during that calendar year.
Applications for grants other than individual grants [TP3.1] (from foundations, institutions, independent associations and similar organisations) must be submitted in writing and include, as a minimum, the following information:
- The amount applied for, including whether applications for the same or a similar amount have been submitted to other funds or organisations and whether any funding commitments have been received from them.
- A description of the purpose of the application, including how the grant will be used - for example, if it forms part of a larger project - and who will benefit from the project.
- An explanation of how the amount applied for fulfils the fund’s purposes described above, including the nature of the connection to the maritime sector and details of the intended beneficiaries.
- A budget showing how the grant will be used, including the project’s overall finances and its total income and expenditure.
- Information about and a brief description of the applicant and recipient, including the applicant’s name; the purpose of the relevant foundation, institution or association; address; contact person; Danish CVR number or, for individuals, CPR number; bank account details; and any other relevant information.
The application and supporting documents must be emailed to fond@danishshipping.dk no later than 15 October to be considered for a grant during that calendar year.
Grants awarded by the fund are taxable under the general provisions of Danish tax legislation. Danish Shipping will therefore report the amount of the grant to the Danish Tax Agency (Skattestyrelsen) in accordance with the applicable rules.
However, the fund has been approved under section 7(22) of the Danish Tax Assessment Act. Individual grants may therefore be exempt from tax for the recipient, subject to certain conditions.
